Sweatford Meadow was identified in the New Forest District Council’s Mitigation Strategy as an area which could be improved to manage recreational pressure on the National Park through improving recreational walking routes and providing open space enhancements outside of the park.
The original meadow path network suffered from poor drainage, was narrow, mostly unsurfaced and overgrown in places. We provided a new 2-metre-wide all-weather surfaced perimeter path to the 430 metre northern section eliminating the drainage problems. We also widened and added a cambered surface to the shorter southern link.
The overall project created a much-improved path network enabling a greater diversity and number of people to enjoy the meadow including people with reduced mobility who had previously been unable to use the meadow.
